Overview
Eken 15 is a residential competition project exploring how contemporary housing can be integrated within a traditional neighborhood context in Borås, Sweden. The proposal reinterprets local architectural forms through simplified geometry, modern layouts, and a focus on improved living quality.
A key challenge was balancing contextual sensitivity with the need to maximize usable space within municipal regulations. Through detailed analysis of local planning rules (detaljplan), the design strategically utilizes under-roof areas and incorporates balconies that are not counted as BOA (usable living area). This approach increases spatial efficiency while remaining fully compliant with regulatory constraints.
The project emphasizes clarity, proportion, and functionality, creating a strong relationship between buildings, residents, and the surrounding environment. Outdoor spaces are treated as extensions of the interior, enhancing everyday living and strengthening the connection to light, landscape, and views.
